travelogues: dialogues from around the world

“Are you documenting your travels anywhere?

It’s a common question when I mention taking time off to travel and a good one at that. I frequently ask myself the same question. How does one document a year of new places, sights, experiences?

I’ve attempted to record much of where we’ve been and what we’ve done via a conglomeration of map bookmarks and photos. Some of which have ended up on Instagram - a travel microblog of sorts if you can call it that.

Lately though I’ve been wondering if researching places to eat or taking pictures is a cop out to me writing and reflecting for real.

There’s always more - so much more - to a place than what to see or eat. The stories and observations from the people you encounter. Random conversations have been the most fulfilling part by far. It’s still early (~4 months in at the time of writing) but I can start to feel these chance or not so chance encounters making tiny imprints on my worldview. And in some cases shattering them.

This section is a place to capture some of these dialogues with the most memorable, ordinary people.

The first comes from New Zealand.
