day 44

Technically started writing in April so it’s been more than 44 days, but who’s counting?

Twitter’s “WFH forever” policy made a ton of headlines (far more than internally) and made me consider how widely adopted remote working is, even in major cities.

I guess as a “millennial” (god this word has collapsed under the weight of its connotations) the concept of working whenever / wherever has always made perfect sense. Why force someone to work from a particular location, at a specified time when they could be more productive elsewhere?

I completely get (and very much miss) the value of in-person meetings but let’s be real - unless you’re high up or client facing all the time - no one gives a crap about where you do your work. Most of us (non-engineers) just stare at screens and send emails and analyze / make reports for the better part of our week anyway.

While this sounds like I’m about to elect into WFH forever, I’m not. This experience has made me realize I am completely someone who needs a physical separation of work and home. So not here to advocate for WFH as the future because it’s personally been pretty tiring.

But for those who love it, let them have it. Let’s just work on dropping the dramatic headlines while we’re at it.
