day 6

Noticed some new growth in our fiddle leaf fig today and it completely made my morning :)

That’s poetic, I thought. Growth in a time of decline.

When I first got plants I bought them and treated them as room decor. Kid you not, bought some succulents because they looked cute, proceeded to store on a bookshelf, forgot, killed them all.

The next time around I remembered to water my plants, but didn’t pay attention to plant type or watering needs. I watered them when I remembered, when I felt like it, on my schedule. I bought plants and placed them around the apartment based on aesthetic, not bothering to look up what conditions they needed to grow. Pretty pompous if you think about it.

During this extended period indoors, I’m learning to appreciate the joys of plant care. Finally learned the names and have been browsing YouTube videos on tips for care.

- You should see some of these plant care videos: “…covers everything you need to know, from naming your plant (pro tip: always give it a name to what to do when you first bring your baby plant home from the nursery)” -

I’ve learned plant care is a lot like other things in life: treat it well, have patience and it thrives.

Ignore it and it dies.

Still have a ways to becoming a full-blown plant mom but did propagate (!) part of the monstera a few weeks ago and am seeing some root development, which is very exciting. Read online it takes anywhere from 1-3 months to develop a root system, which remember thinking was forever, but doesn’t feel so long anymore.

Time flies when you’re quarantined.
