day 61
There is A LOT going on right now:
a global pandemic
a nationwide string of protests (day 6 since George Floyd’s death)
still a pandemic
There’s a ton swirling around to process still, so bear with me. Will likely be a series of posts.
For now I will explore the privilege of what we currently get to focus on.
Case in point: If I were in this apartment with no access to internet, I would have NO IDEA of the violence and injustice in the outside world. Why? Because no one in my immediate family or close friend group is legitimately threatened by what is going on.
Sure we’re uncomfortable and saddened and most of us realize something is not right.
But do tell why the fuck my timeline is full of spaceX launch celebrations and even one really unfortunate I-did-not-read-the-room post along the lines of “Proud of America today?”
To be clear, ongoing events can be independently mourned and celebrated. And yes, the launch is cool.
But really. Pause and consider what you get to think about this weekend.
If it’s not worrying about your life or future or your basic fundamental rights in this nation, consider yourself lucky.
And then just shut up and listen.
Oh and for the history books: SF instituted an 8pm curfew starting tonight.
